Green Teen Video Contest is a youth produced video competition for youth aged 12 to 18 designed to connect teens from around the region and world, so that they can share and develop their visions for a sustainable future. This is a contest in conjunction with the annual Youth Environment Summit held at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
Who Can Enter
- Anyone between the ages of 12 and 18
- Youth from all states, countries and nations can enter
Why You Should Enter
- This contest gives you a chance to let your voice be heard, to connect with like-minded youth from around the world and gives you a chance to develop your film making skills through our FREE film making workshops hosted by Access Tucson.
- All youth who worked on a winning film will be invited to the Youth Environment Summit, featuring a Red Carpet Premier on February 6, 2010 of winning videos to be held at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
- Out-of-town FILM CREWS invited to the Youth Environment Summit will be awarded a travel allowance of up to $200 cash. (Applies to teams travelling more than 100 miles to the Desert Museum.
- PRIZES include:
- $1500 scholarships to our high school Earth Camp program
- $750 scholarships to our middle school Earth Camp program
- Cash prizes of $100 each
- Other goodies (T-Shirts, Gift Cards, Books, etc)
How to Enter
Create a FILM CREW
- Select one member of your team to be the PRODUCER, he/she will be responsible for all communications with the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum concerning your film.
- Chose a FILM CREW. This will consist of the PRODUCER and up to 4 other crewmembers. No FILM CREW may consist of more than 5 members, however, there is no limit to how many people may appear in your film (actors/actresses, extras, etc.)
REGISTER by completing and submitting the registration form
- The PRODUCER must register him/herself and the rest of the FILM CREW by completing the Registration Form. Please complete this form ASAP.
- No film will be considered by the judges unless the Parental Permission Forms are filled out for all members of the FILM CREW and for all youth 18 years or younger who appear in the film.
KNOW what the judges are looking for
- Videos must be submitted in one of two film formats:
- Eco-Ad - This is a 60 second film suitable for a TV commercial slot or Public Service Announcement. This is a brief persuasive film that should encourage its viewers to live more sustainably.
- Eco-Documentary - This is a short film of up to 5 minutes in length. If you choose the documentary option, you should try to be as objective as possible in presenting a situation or issue. You can tell a story of an event, person, or movement, or explain an environmental issue. The goal should be to give viewers more information that they can use to make sustainable choices.

Videos must address one of the following topics:
- Water Resources
- Sustainable Foods
- Wildlife Conservation
- Energy Resources
- Waste Reduction
- Climate Change
- Invasive Species
- Green Technologies
- Videos will be judged on the following criteria:
- Content (Is your message clear and accurate?)
- Impact (Will your audience be emotionally moved?)
- Innovation (Did you try new things?)
- Videography (Did you use interesting filming techniques?)
Film your VIDEO
- Use any phone, camera or camcorder to create your work of art. If you don't have access to one, check with your local library, your school or Amy Orchard at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (520-883-3083) Or you can check out a camera from Access Tucson if you attend a FREE film making workshop
NEED SOME HELP MAKING YOUR VIDEO?- Attend one of the FREE film making workshops held by ASDM and Access Tucson to learn how to use a camera, how to add sound, special effects and text to your film and how to use Final Cut Express to edit your video.
- Ask someone to be on your FILM CREW who has made video before (even if they aren't your best friend!)

POST your video to YouTube and/or send it by mail no later than January 9th
- Log in to YouTube. If you don't have an account already, it's easy and only takes a few minutes to set one up. The use of YouTube.com to accept contest entries does not imply an endorsement of the site or its parent company by the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
- Join our group page at http://www.youtube.com/group/teenvideocontest
- Post your video by the January 9, 2010 deadline.
- Once you've submitted your video for the contest, you will not see your video right away. This is either because it is still processing or is yet to be approved by the group moderator. Please wait at least 3 days for your video to appear before resubmitting. The moderator will NOT approve any films for which the signed Parental Permission Forms from all youth involved have not been received.
- If you prefer not to have your entry displayed on YouTube, you may submit it by sending it on a CD-ROM or DVD to the following address:

- Winners will be announced by January 23, 2010.
Be sure to follow the CONTEST RULES
Any videos not adhering to the following rules will be disqualified:- All Entries must be accompanied by a Registration Form (to be filled out by the teen PRODUCER), and a Parental Permission Form for each FILM CREW member and all youth under 18 who appear in the film.
- Each PRODUCER may only enter one film. Other FILM CREW member, actors/actresses or extras on their film are allowed to be a PRODUCER on another film and may submit one film themselves.
- Eco-Ads from the Youth Environment Summit 2009 will not be accepted.
- All entries must be original work and must be produced by youth ages 12-18. Assistance from professional companies is not permitted. The only exception being that teens may receive training from Access Tucson through these FREE film making workshops
- Films may not contain any copyrighted or trademarked materials including; but not limited to: photograph likenesses of or references to celebrities or known persons alive or dead, recorded music, published works from books, magazines, newspapers, plays, song lyrics, scripts, essays, articles, web site content, or clips from television programs or movies, sports footage, official logos of any organization, existing artwork or graphic design.
- Videos must be clean. No violence, profanity, nudity, or sex. No portrayals of anyone under the age of 21 drinking, smoking or using drugs. No direct attacks on individuals or organizations.
- Entries cannot use copyrighted music. Only original or uncopyrighted music may be used. Any supporting data used in your video, such as statistics, quotations and facts, must be true, accurate and reliable.
- By submitting a video to this contest, you grant the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Access Tucson a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use, your video for any educational purpose throughout the world or in any media.
