Extreme Specimens of Pachycormus discolor

The incredible specimen in these four images is growing on Punta Eugenia, the extreme tip of the Vizcaino Peninsula on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The "tree" is one foot tall and spreads 60 feet along the ground.

It is rooted at the bottom end and grows only uphill, away from the wind. The two things growing downward are roots.

There are many smaller flat Pachycormus on hills along the Pacific coast. This site is at Puerto Nuevo on the Vizcaino Peninsula.

Away from the windy coast Pachycormus assumes a "normal" tree form.
